UK standard 1200x1000

The 1200 x 1000mm footprint is the default across most UK grocery, retail and general distribution flows, and it is the size most commonly asked for on the South Coast.

Because it is the domestic norm, 1200x1000 stock circulates widely — which is why both new and graded used options are usually discussed together. The footprint also affects how efficiently a load fills standard UK trailers and how it behaves in racking, so a change of pallet size is rarely a like-for-like swap.

For air freight, the practical consideration is what happens at build-up. A 1200x1000 base is a road and warehouse pallet; whether cargo stays on it depends on the handling agent, the aircraft and the way the consignment is built. Wooden transport pallets are not aircraft unit load devices, and the two should never be specified as if they were interchangeable.

For export by sea or road out of the customs territory, the size does not change the wooden packaging requirement. Treatment and marking depend on the material and the movement, not the footprint.
