1200 x 800mm is a footprint. EPAL is a licensed pallet specification with its own marking and exchange rules. Asking for one and receiving the other causes real problems at delivery.

If your customer or your own goods-in standard genuinely requires licensed exchangeable pallets, that must be stated in the enquiry, because it constrains what can be supplied and how it can be repaired. If the requirement is simply that the load fits a 1200x800 footprint — for trailer fill, racking, or a European customer's handling equipment — then the choice is wider.

We will not describe a pallet as EPAL, licensed or exchangeable unless that is what it actually is and can be evidenced. Where we cannot confirm it, we say so and offer the footprint alternative instead, clearly labelled.

The same treatment and marking questions apply as with any wooden packaging leaving or entering a customs territory. GB to EU, EU to GB and movements involving Northern Ireland each need checking in their own right.

• European road freight where 1200x800 suits the trailer or customer
• Customers whose racking and handling is built around the Euro footprint
• Export packing where a smaller footprint improves cube utilisation
• Mixed-size operations standardising a second footprint

• Origin and destination of the movement, including any Northern Ireland leg
• New or used, and quantity per delivery
