Southampton Airport pallet supply (SOU)
Southampton Airport sits at Eastleigh inside one of the densest engineering and distribution catchments on the South Coast, and the pallet work here is landside: build-up, consolidation and export packing rather than anything airside.

The airport sits at Eastleigh, immediately alongside the M27 and the main rail line, surrounded by engineering works, light manufacturing and distribution units running from Eastleigh and Chandler's Ford through Nursling, Totton and Hedge End. Those businesses are what pallet supply here serves: the forwarders, consolidators and manufacturers on the estates around the airport, not airside handling.
Southampton's own published vision document describes the airport's cargo throughput as predominantly courier and express deliveries, carried mostly in the hold of passenger aircraft with occasional freight-only flights. That document is some years old and is not a statement of current schedules, so we make no claim about present-day frequencies. Much of the air freight generated in this catchment also travels by road to a larger cargo hub and is broken down and rebuilt there. In practice a consignment is built and wrapped locally, trunked by road or handed to a courier operator, and handled again at build-up — so the pallet has to survive road handling first and satisfy the destination's wood packaging rules second.
Pallet use cases here
Road-fed air freight consolidation
Loads built at Eastleigh for onward air freight are handled two or three times before they fly. A consistent footprint and sound deck coverage across the batch is what reduces re-work at build-up, which is where damaged pallets are usually found.
Engineering and manufacturing export packing
Aerospace, marine and precision engineering firms across the Eastleigh and Chandler's Ford estates ship awkward, heavy or high-value items that suit a bespoke skid, runnered base or case, with lifting and tie-down points designed in rather than added later.
Mixed domestic and export flows on one site
A single unit here often needs export-specification timber for an outbound consignment and graded used stock for a domestic pallet-network collection the same week, plus a route for surplus empties. Where solid wood packaging leaves the customs territory, the treatment and marking question belongs to the destination rules for that movement.

Wooden transport pallets are not aircraft unit load devices. We supply the pallets used to build, move and store freight on the ground; ULDs are aircraft equipment handled by airlines and their handling agents.
